BLADE AND SOUL

BLADE AND SOUL GAME REVIEW 2022

Blade & Soul is a 3D fantasy MMORPG with real-time combat in a martial arts setting. Players are expected to give their attacks and chain combos the right amount of time to maximize their chances of loss. The game provides more beautiful environment and interesting character design.

It's been four years since the first Blade and Soul were launched in Asia. Torture was waiting for Western fans of the game. But now that it has finally come here, it remains to be seen what all the fuss was about. It's a great idea to mix a mix of battle games and MMOs, but the smart fighting of Blade and Soul doesn't make it out of the shadows of other MMORPGs. It has very little flash and not many features. Comparing to free-to-play peers is a tough game, especially since Ensisoft recommends its own Wildstar Bla Blade and Soul.

If you've been playing an MMO for the past decade, you're probably already familiar with any of the Blade and Soul activities. In your quest to reach the level cap and open endgame activities, you will travel through imaginary mountains and jungles, run dungeons and if fancy hits you, master crafts and collection skills. Blades and surfaces rarely try to do anything original with this formulaic structure and the few deviations it creates have moderate results.

So we played Blade and Soul .. and you know what? It's still a lot of fun. It was always so much fun, there’s nothing to deny it. Today, I want to talk about what I found enjoyable about the game and whether Blade and Soul are eligible to start or return in 2020.

So, "Is this MMORPG starting?" Welcome to the third episode. Remember: this is not a review. These are just my thoughts about the game.

Now Mrs. Sticks and I have been streaming Twitch Blade and Soul for a month. We stream every MMO video there - so I urge you to visit us if you are interested in being part of our journey through different games.

During our streaming month we got to play with a lot of you and it was a lot of fun. The multiplayer aspect of MMOs is what attracts many of us to this genre.

Blackout, Expedition, PVP, World Boss, Guild. In such games the sense of community is important and being equal with a group is a very rewarding experience, whatever the game.

The leveling experience at Blade & Soul hits and misses itself. Games leveling experience has been cut quite significantly over the years, with players only having to follow the level with the original story.

Side quests, grinding monsters, dungeons - none of these have any purpose other than to advance into the next area. Heck, when I was actively playing, the dungeons provided you with weapons that were better than what you had when you entered, so there was a purpose behind cultivating them.

Nowadays, - and I’m moving forward and talking about the “Streamlined” leveling experience, you’ve been given the best weapon for your level so you can move towards the endgame as humanely as possible.

Now don’t get me wrong, the story itself, when a little “Shawn”, I guess the word I’ll use, is pretty easy to follow and interesting enough to avoid. Although most of the stories are singular - an example that has to be done singly. Areas where you separate groups and other players together.

This makes it even more difficult to equalize with other players - where the intention was to run with other players, where the game has become easier and there is less content in a group, I think the game is a single experience until much later in the game.

But it’s just the experience of flattening. Leveling is just one aspect of what makes a game. Battle is another, and Blade and Soul action battles are always top notch.

There was a debate going on between Black Desert and fans of Blade and Soul, over which there are better forms of warfare. In my opinion? Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but they are different games aimed at completely different audiences.

Battle of the Blade and Soul is a mix between two different styles of combat: reactive and skill-based. You can access a basic ability bound by block, parry or counter with your left mouse button and your right click depending on the category you want.

Then there’s the key to your hotbar, the harmful power, the crowd control power, the extra power associated with hacks, several classes actually have their healing power if they give the idea to them or the people around them. Blade & Soul has a highly interactive combat system that isn't really replicated too much in other MMOs.

Now there are a few major issues with Blade and Soul that I have not only encountered up front, but I have also heard of every player and content creator with whom I have discussed Blade and Soul.

The endgame is made especially for whales - who spend a lot of money on the game and a lot of RNG.

And the population has been steadily declining over the last few years, never growing.

Where players like ESO, Final Fantasy XIV and WOW have big spikes when releasing new content - literally increasing their population and even when they publish new regions, new classes or the like, BDO's big spikes give new content and Yes.

Blade & Soul's playerbase, though not dead in any way, is not growing. It hasn’t grown over the years and eventually it will continue to decline until it finally ends with another title like Rift or Terra.

But you know what? The playerbase is very low in terms of active players and the game targets high-rollers, which does not mean that you cannot have fun in the game unless your goal is competitive.

The game is absolutely fantastic, with an interesting story, full voice acting, sick fights and many positive features that make you quite experienced for running the game for the first time!

So for new players, it’s an MMO that’s perfectly worth playing. For everyone else? I doubt it deserves to come back again.

I know I could say more. Black Hole Campaign. PVP. But again, this isn’t a complete review, it’s just my thoughts on the game, what I’ve enjoyed and what new players will see in the game.

Kicking everything but tradition

Your quest to avenge the murder of your friend and master mysterious Ginsun has the weight of a cartoon Saturday morning. It’s good fun, but not just a catchy thing. And although there are some interesting moments, they have expanded into the PvE campaign and reminded them that they were sitting at the dinner table when my mother threatened to stop dessert until I had finished my vegetables.

It’s a non-stop dam of ‘go here and kill Y’s X’ that blends in with a few forms that always fail to mix things up. It is almost impossible to escape from these searches because they are the only way to flatten at a reasonable speed. Dungeons and PvP may be enough for more patient players, but the little experience points gained in both cases mean it will take much longer to reach the same destination.

There is also an annoying lack of life features. The monsters or objects you need to look for are not just for you, which can be a nightmare to explore in crowded areas because there is no way to share what you earn from killing monsters with other players unless you team up together. You can switch between "channels" hoping to find an example of a region not populated, but this is a great solution to a problem solved many years ago, when you realized that many boss traveling regions share their prizes equally. Would you kill them as part of a group?

Black holes are usually a welcome distraction from the search for bread and butter in other MMOs, but I think many find them unimaginable and short - mostly black holes in the conventional sense. Instead, they are five-minute romps with another wait at the end of an obscure cave or an anticlimactic boss. Instead of demanding teamwork or skills in your class, bigger, wider dungeons feel like a breeze. Below the proposed level I never struggled to lose them as an incomplete team.

Assemblies and crafts are underdeveloped, too, requiring nothing more than time and money. You can join two crafts and two assembly guilds, but the process of acquiring wealth just seems to sink money, not a profitable investment. Simply select what you want to do or collect, pay the fee and then wait a certain amount of real time (about 20 minutes) and collect the item.

Like most free-to-play games, Blade and Soul has an in-game cash store so you can spend real money or special in-game coins. Fortunately, those who prefer to ignore the cash reserves will have no difficulty because the items are either cosmetics or for convenience, such as the weapons found in the chest can be used in your class.

One aspect of the recognized PVE experience is that the environment of the blade and sole is very beautiful. They don’t necessarily feel combined, and you can hardly believe you’re exploring a living world, but it feels good to see the backgrounds and tastes of each region. Sadly, the performance was somewhat uneven because the frame dips and hitches graphics settings were not normal and impressive.

Art design will be controversial, but it forces almost every woman with short arms, tied and short waists. The character builder has a good degree of flexibility, but it’s clear what it’s going for. For example, I had a great time wearing new clothes, and everyone had real artwork elements like my choice, but it’s frustrating that so many people think they were designed entirely overnight before going to bed with scissors and piercing their breasts. At least the breed you choose makes a difference. Like the U cat, both Eun and Lin seem to have more intelligent pictures than Gon and Jin.

What finally stopped me about the characters was the embarrassing breast physics that caused every woman's breasts, big or small, to spin like two helium balloons on a stormy day. I realize that the skimpy costume in the anime course and the unreasonably bouncy book is the same, but the teenage imagination becomes detached from the whole thing - I want to play as a badass warrior, not a hypersexualized doll.

I know kung fu

All of this would make Blade and Soul act as another ‘Korean MMORPG’ if it weren’t for one thing: excellent player-vs-player combat that seems more like a fighting game than an MMO. It’s already a popular game in the East, and I doubt it will grow as it engages with Western competitors.

At any time, you can go to an arena lobby and meet other players. In these conflicts your gear stats have been flattened, winning over completely raw skills instead of having advanced equipment.

But there’s a big problem with PvP: unless you flatten your character up to the cap without pushing through the already horribly dull PvE, it really can’t be appreciated. When arena matches are matched with gear, you will not have access to all your powers until you level and unlock them. Worse, from what I can tell, very few attempts have been made to associate you with opponents on the same level. In the beginning I often met players above my 20 level, which was a big problem when I didn’t even unlock my strong skills.

Each of the seven classes has its own way of fighting which seems very unique. Although I first fell in love with the kung fu master's combo and reliance on the counter, I preferred the cruelty of the quick destroyer, who can subdue a giant ax and opponent when repeatedly hitting the face.

Instead of relying on auto-attacks to fill in the blanks while massing complex hotkey rotations, fighting at Blade and Soul lets you take direct control of your character. Both you and your opponent have a satisfying complexity of how your strength expands during a fight depending on the situation. If you get a back injury or injury, your hotkey bar skills may change due to situational skills. The right time will help bring the war back to you. Playing as my Destroyer, a deadline counter could send my opponent flying, causing them to face the punishment of a pile driver.

This fluid approach to combat creates an exciting gift and acceptance that looks elegant while rewarding skills and time. Even against an obviously good opponent, I never feel completely out of place in a fight when a good time counter can bring back adversity in my favor. I have raised my hand for victory more than once.

Sadly, off the field, the battle has almost no effect - especially against the countless monsters on the last game ride. Although most players will try to mimic the skills used when fighting other players, they are rarely an option. I found the most common difficulty of PvE warfare frustratingly easy. Instead of dynamic and challenging battles, fighting computer-controlled enemies became a tedious routine. Like other MMOs, I’ve spammed the same power rotation over and over again because I’ve cleared my way around the world while looking at my experience bar as if it’s a clock hand on the last day of school.

This is where the tension between Blade and Soul's desire to be MMOs and a highly competitive fighting game is at its worst. And where I want the whole MMO aspect can be alchemical or completely complete. If PvE and leveling were actually fun, the way PvP is held hostage, I could be more forgiving than that if you spend dozens of hours crushing your character to level5 level. That’s when they can reach the better part of the game.

Without the housing or other confusion created more deeply, the blades and sole seem quite light. Outside of PvP, it's the same grind that has already gotten a lot better in other games. If PVP were instantly accessible to new players, I don’t think it would be a big problem, but Blade and Soul insist on being a derivative MMO first and a great competitive fighting game second.
